Success through trial and error is the way of the Beta-warrior.

The best way to find the perfect settings for getting your content onto the Hololens is through trial and error currently. That said, there are a few common approaches we've deemed share-worthy.
Smallest Feature vs. Object scale
The Smallest Feature in the Computation GUI is an absolute number and always represents world units. However, it's an abstraction of a number of different parameters we use and therefore it isn't always straight-forward to predict results.
Decreasing the Smallest Feature yileds higher detail, but the similar results can be achieved through increasing object scale.
The end results are therefore an interplay of the two.
Scale model up for computation, scale Runtime down for deployment
Once you find the optimal model detail and polygon count, the Umbra Runtime can be scaled down before deploying to the Hololens to achieve desired object size in Augmented Reality.
Using a blank Unity Project for Deployment
To avoid any possible interaction with the original geometry and project files, you can always install the Unity Plugin into a new blank Unity Project and copy over the Assets/StreamingAssets folder from the original project and then follow the deployment steps as normal.
